Thin Cannon across the top cushion in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 4 тис.Рік тому
This cannon is often played too softly and ends up in a cover. Play it more firmly and across the face of both balls to work the red away from the cushion to leave a pot red for your next shot.
A transition from all around play to Top of the Table in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
Here we have a vital practice routine for a safe transition from all around play to Top of the Table. These six simple shots complete the transition without the need to play or risk a cannon of any sort. This is the safest way to approach Top of the Table.
A Double Kiss all around Cannon in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 4,1 тис.3 роки тому
Here we have a neat shot from in hand and from a very tricky position. The red is frozen to the side cushion nine inches below the centre pocket. The white is close to the baulk pocket. Played at a three quarter ball contact to double kiss off the red with bottom and side spin to send the cue ball off 3 or 4 cushions to make the cannon and leave a loser off the white. It’s another crowd pleaser...
Forcing Cannon down the cushion in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 3,7 тис.3 роки тому
Here’s a video showing a cannon from a seemingly tough position. Played at a three quarter ball contact with top spin to force the cue back into the cushion to make the cannon and push the red towards the pocket.
Using side spin to alter the path of the balls in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 3,9 тис.3 роки тому
The video shows how you can alter and manipulate the path and position of the balls using side spin. All the three shots are played at the same contact point and at the same speed. The only variant is the side put on the cue ball. Note how different the three outcomes are.
The transmission of side in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 2,4 тис.3 роки тому
Here we have a short slow motion video on how side spin is transmitted from the cue ball to the object ball. Note how the object ball travels along the baulkline until it hits the side cushion, the small amount of side spin then pushes the object ball away from the baulkline after it hits the cushion.
Back spin and top spin at the point of impact in English Billiards by Rob Hall

A little slow motion video of the effects of back spin and top spin at the point of impact.
Making a Century off the red in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
This video shows a century being made purely from Losers off the red. When playing or practicing red ball the aim is to keep the red in the central areas of the table. By doing this you always have an easy shot to follow and avoid the awkward positions such as the Short and Long Jenny or run-throughs.
15 Losers into the Left Centre Pocket in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
Here we have a video showing fifteen consecutive Losers into the Left Centre pocket. As you can see in the video the contact points and spin vary depending on the position of the red ball. The aim is to keep pushing the red up and down the same line each shot to leave you the same (or very similar) shot again. This is a great practice exercise to get the cue arm going.
Regaining Lindrum’s Magic Circle position in English Billiards by Rob Hall

Here’s a few examples of shots and positions that regularly come up in the game from which you can regain perfect position in Lindrum’s Magic Circle.
A Two Cushion Cannon in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 2,6 тис.3 роки тому
A straight forward two cushion from a seemingly awkward position. This shot is played a bit thinner than half ball and with running side. Play this at the correct speed and the red will come to rest near the baulk pocket for a simple pot to follow.
Drop Cannon using the side cushion in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 2,8 тис.3 роки тому
This shot is played if the red is too wide for the long loser and the direct drop cannon is too narrow. Played at a thin contact with side to push the red over the corner pocket and let the cue ball run off the side cushion to contact the white promoting it to a better position. Not a difficult and very useful to help you get out of a tricky situation.
Massé Cannon played with a thick contact played in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 3,1 тис.3 роки тому
This is the variation of a massè cannon played with a thick contact on the object ball. An ideal shot for getting out of tight positions.
Double Kiss Cannon to recover the red ball from baulk in English Billiards by Rob Hall
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
This shot is played at a full ball contact striking the cue ball directly below centre. Double kiss off the white to go in off the red and also recover the red from baulk. It’s a clever shot that is surprisingly simple to play.

hi ya, i know im 6 yrs late, i played for the local team many years ago and i can never remember anyone playing a miss, but i saw it on the world title the other week and it wasnt called, is that a rule change or has it always been there, i played snooker and billiards as a teen and early 20s, and i so wish i had youtube and a table in those days
Thats good?
Nice shot to know if you’re a sandbagger, wanting to scratch on the 8 ball!
More often than not, the red stays inside the baulk when i play this. Very hard to control the red off 4 cushions!
I think it's just 3 cushions. The red should stop before the baulk. I can imagine that you need quite a lot of power to get red back to the middle after 4 cushions. For me, the difficulty of this shot is that the table on which I play has a really old cloth. So the slide is minimal, and I need to play this almost like the stun run shot.
Great shot
If you keep the white a bit wider and play this with strong right hand side, the object white will end up closer to the red spot and the red will stay for the pot.
What a beautiful shot. I think the reason most people miss this is shot that they are not trying to control the object ball.
Rob - I would request to make the Video again as D and Baulk Line is not clear. It is not visible where the Cue ball has been placed in the D before hitting the red. Though I understand that it is near to Yellow Spot. But I want clear cut position of the cue ball. I would apreciate your time and effort. Thanks for the tips and guidance. Keep well. Subodh Lahri, email - "sklahri2002@yahoo.com"
i noticed you play at below center for this shot... was the speed played just enough so that there is hardly any back spin when the white hits the red, so that you have the best chance of going in-off at "pocket speed?"
This is so satisfying
Thanks you so much for posting these videos Rob, they have really helped my play!
Rob it appears in feathering you are cueing up as if to play a stun or mild screw, but then on the shot itself you come up to the position shown in the diagram at the video start. Is this intentional or habit or for some other reason? Great video I'd like to learn that one. Cheers
Nice shot. Does going down the table require running side?
Pity the video didn't show where the cue ball was contacted by the cue!
Yes.👌👌😁😁
Huy hallo sir. Good to see like above long Jenny shot.
At the risk of sounding repetitive Brilliant is the word!
You make it look so easy . Nice video!
Magnificent shot!
Lovely. N
third 0:46 is obviously best I guess - but can't be guaranteed. How many goes did it take? !
Interesting - I've watched a lot of billiards over the years including recently at Leeds. I don't recall anyone playing this shot - think most would play to hit the red and the cushion possibly with right hand side.
That was my thought! However the double kiss method is worth working on for sure!
Art!
Thanks Rob. The most concise instructional videos ever. 👍
That video is unique on UA-cam, ❤️
It's great honour and respected for game.
Amazing played. Three of three in per fact that involved.
What on earth does that mean? 🤣
Nice shot Rob :-)
I play that English billiards for the first time in King’s pool last week.

Awesome video! Cheers Rob
Thanks for these mate
Great series of videos on English Billiards Rob !! Superb filming and editing. The ball contact fraction is illustrated well :) I really enjoy playing English billiards more than any other form of Cue Sports. I play often at a local club in my hometown. I'm no pro like you. . . It's more of a serious hobby. Your videos are certainly helping me improve my game. Great stuff !! I would love to understand how the nap influences certain shots in English Billiards. Could you please shed some light on that ? (If possible, a video would also be great)
Brilliant Rob, I will be recommending these to all students of the game. To me this is where the true beauty and elegance of our sport lives, the ability to make that cue ball bend to the will of the master and a master you are sir.
Rob, Your videos are fantastic. Thanks for posting them. Can you make a video that shows losers from hand where the red is in Lindrum's Magic Circle. I have great difficulty sighting these consistently and would love to be able to bring the red back to the circle.
Thank you for posting. I've just watched all your videos so far. Can't wait to see future posts.
Such a naughty shot!!
Great Videos, well done Rob. Would love some more 👍🏻
Hey rob can you do video on long run through in offs! i really struggle with them
Can you give me an example of the shot you mean please Jason.
Good video Rob. Very skillful
